Please describe your role; responsibilities at that position?

I manage all of the communications and digital/social media for the NASCAR team LEGACY MOTOR CLUB.

What did you study in college and how did your educational background shape your career in the sports industry?

I studied psychology and business in college and then I have a master’s in business. I also have a graduate certificate in integrated marketing communications as well as sports management.

Can you share the key milestones in your career that led you to your current position in the sports industry?

Honestly there were a few awards I won that really motivated me to strive for success but it was always the encouragement of my father, who I very recently lost, that helped me get to where I am today.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a woman in sports business? how have you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was learning how to have the confidence to stand my ground on my thoughts and opinions. Sometimes I felt as though I didn’t have a voice, but getting to the point where I felt confident enough to challenge people and ask questions was a game changer.

Balancing a career is demanding. How do you manage a work -life balance? What strategies have worked well for you?

That’s a great question. You have to work hard at it. I have let work consume me for many years, and I try to teach the next generation of people coming into this sport to have some work/life balance. Don’t miss important family things because of work, there will always be someone to support you at work, but you can’t get the family time or memories back.

How important is mentorship for women in the sports industry? Have you had mentors or role models who played a significant role in your career and can give some details?

I’ve had many mentors in the industry, both men and women who I have looked up to over the years. I try to take key characteristics away from each leader that has coached me over the last years and make my own leadership better. I also watch other sports closely and try to follow other women in sports on social media, I try to always learn and listen to women who have influence. Andrea Brimmer the Chief Marketing and PR Officer from Ally Bank is one of my favorite people to hear speak. She is an absolute rockstar and an advocate for women in sports.

In a male-dominated industry, do you feel women are given equal opportunities? What steps do you think can be taken to promote gender equality in the sports industry?

I think the conversation 20 years ago was different but I think women do have the same opportunities as men currently. There can always be improvement, but sometimes you can’t change the mindset of others. All you can do is be your best self in everything you set out to do.

What aspects of your work in the sports industry do you enjoy the most? What parts do you find the most challenging?

I enjoy PR. I really like storytelling, pitching and landing stories that are unique. I like the people that I work with. The changing media landscape is challenging, but that also makes it fun.

What advice do you have for young women aspiring to build a successful career in the sports industry?

Work hard, be kind and fair, and always be on time.

What is your long-term personal goal that you still want to achieve both business wise and personal?

I would like to continue down the leadership path of our team and make it to the ‘chief’ of something someday. I also want to help others develop their own careers in the communications field and hopefully teach at the university level someday. I’m one class away from a teaching certificate.

Any fun facts you’d like the world to learn about you? Favorite food, hobbies, # of kids, pet peeves, etc. The more the merrier!!

I have a Goldendoodle named Tucker (who is the best boy) and my husband Travis and I like to spend time at the Jersey Shore in Sea Isle City, NJ and on Ocracoke Island, NC when we aren’t traveling for work.
