Please describe your role & responsibilities at that position ?

Leads legal department and risk management

What did you study in college and how did your educational background shape your career in the sports industry?

I studied political science with a pre-law emphasis. I minored in business. I knew I was going to law school with an end goal to work in sports.

Can you share the key milestones in your career that led you to your current position in the sports industry?

After practicing law in the private sector for nearly 20 years, I made the leap to pro sports. I handled entertainment law for years and the skills were very transferable.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a woman in the sports business, & how have you overcome them?

Working in men’s sports used to be more rare for women, but in the past few years I see more women moving into the executive ranks. I have never let the fact that women are outnumbered bother me and I have tried to mentor and bring along other women in their careers.

Balancing a career is demanding. How do you manage a work-life balance? What strategies have worked well for you?

I have learned to accept that as women we can have a great career and a personal life, but it is very difficult to have both at the same time. After working for nearly 30 years I have learned to vehemently protect my family time and maintaining boundaries does get easier the more senior I become.

How important is mentorship for women in the sports industry? Have you had mentors or role models who played a significant role in your career and can give some details ?

Extremely important. I had excellent mentors- both male and female.

What aspects of your work in the sports industry do you enjoy the most ? What parts do you find the most challenging ?

I love working as a team and knowing that the product on the field is a translation of all the effort of the front office. I find supporting all the various departments throughout the team (marketing, sponsorships, the technical staff) challenging but exciting because I can learn about what those folks do to support our team.

What advice do you have for young women aspiring to build a successful career in the sports industry?

Never give up. I pursued a career outside sports for my first 20 years but I built a tool kit of skills that translated to the pro sports world. It’s never too late to get into sports.

What are your long term personal goals that you still want to achieve both business wise and personal?

I want our club to win another major trophy/championship before I retire. Maybe two!

Any fun facts you’d like the world to learn about you? Favorite food, hobbies, how many kids, pet peeves, etc. The more the merrier!

I am a sports mom- following my kids around to tournaments and supporting them.
